Asthma
Have you been told that you or your child has Asthma? Asthma is a chronic disease that causes the airways — the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs — to become sore and swollen. It causes difficulty breathing, and symptoms include coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. In the United States, approximately 20 million people have asthma, and nearly 9 million of them are children. Children have smaller airways than adults, which makes asthma especially serious for them. Asthma affects about 1 or 2 kids out of every 10. Asthma can start at any age — even in a little baby or an adult — but it’s most common in school-aged children.
