LSCC and Seton Family of Hospitals Open New Clinical Hub, Launch Collaboration for Community Health
(January 27, 2010) ROUND ROCK, TEXAS – Lone Star Circle of Care (LSCC), a federally qualified community health center, and the Seton Family of Hospitals today announced the opening of a multi-service clinical hub in the Texas A&M Health Science Center in Round Rock. The facility, which includes five health clinics operated by LSCC and sponsored by the Seton Family of Hospitals, provides primary health care and preventive services to the community with special emphasis on the underserved.
Services currently offered at the new clinical hub include adult primary care; pediatric and adolescent primary care; obstetrics and gynecology; and psychiatry and behavioral health. Each service line is offered in a separate clinical space within the building. A senior care clinic and a pharmacy will be opening at the site this spring.
“With 33,000 square feet of beautiful, top quality clinical space offering several service lines and a pharmacy, this location truly is a paragon of community health care,” said Scott Nicklebur, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of Lone Star Circle of Care. “In response to the unprecedented rise in the number of medically underserved in our community, Lone Star Circle of Care, the Seton Family of Hospitals and Texas A&M Health Science Center are joining forces to redefine and improve health care access in Central Texas.”
The Seton Family Hospitals provided Lone Star Circle of Care with an approximately $3.5 million grant to fund the equipment, staffing and other start-up costs for the clinical hub. The clinics include Seton-Lone Star Women’s Services; Seton-Lone Star Behavioral Health; Seton-Lone Star Senior Care (opening this spring); Seton-Lone Star Family Medicine; and Seton-Lone Star Pediatrics (which includes adolescent care in a separate clinical space).
“The Seton-Lone Star collaboration has inspired a broader vision that will benefit Williamson County and the entire Central Texas region,” said Mark Hazelwood, President & CEO, North Market, Seton Family of Hospitals. “The future holds exciting plans for the development of additional clinics and the creation of a regional pediatric network to better serve our children.”
During today’s celebration, leaders from the Seton Family of Hospitals, Lone Star Circle of Care and Texas A&M Health Science Center each commented on the innovative nature of the collaboration that has created the clinical hub facility. The partnership allows health professions students to learn in both community health center and cutting edge hospital settings, offering an unparalleled educational experience, while also offering patients access to a high quality health care home. In addition, the collaboration fosters recruitment efforts for all three organizations, bringing highly skilled physicians and medical experts from all over the nation to Central Texas.
The Seton-Lone Star clinics began seeing patients on December 14, 2009. Though it has been open for less than six weeks, the facility is already serving 150 patients per day. The entire hub has the capacity to provide care for 31,000 patients per year.
Lone Star Circle of Care accepts all patients, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay for services, and there are no residency or income restrictions. To schedule an appointment at any Lone Star Circle of Care clinic, patients should call toll-free: 877-800-5722. Same day appointments are available.
