Lone Star Circle of Care Opens New Location in Northwest Austin

May 10, 2013

(May 10, 2013) AUSTIN, TEXAS – Lone Star Circle of Care (LSCC), a federally qualified health center, today announced the opening of a multi-service clinic location in Austin at Seton Northwest Hospital. The new clinic offers comprehensive OB/GYN, pediatric and adult primary care, and psychiatry and behavioral health, and is LSCC’s second location in Travis County. Like all LSCC clinics, the new location accepts all patients, with a focus on providing care for those who are medically underserved.

U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul and other local leaders formally opened the new clinic today during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, where they discussed the need for access to affordable health care for the uninsured and underinsured and the services that the clinic would add to the community.

“The need for LSCC’s services in Central Texas is growing every day,” said Dr. Tamarah Duperval-Brownlee, Chief Medical Officer for LSCC. “These clinics will bring much-needed access to care for people of all ages, providing primary health care for mothers, babies and entire families. We look forward to serving the North Austin community.”

The new service location is in the Health Plaza building adjacent to Seton Northwest Hospital at 11111 Research Blvd. At full capacity the site will serve over 8,000 individuals, providing nearly 40,000 health care visits per year. The clinics were opened in partnership with Seton Healthcare Family, which provided start-up funding for staffing, office space and equipment.

“Lone Star Circle of Care’s mission closely aligns with our mission to improve health care for those we serve, with a special concern for the poor and vulnerable,” said Greg Hartman, President and CEO of Seton Medical Center Austin and University Medical Center Brackenridge. “These new clinics also will save patients’ and taxpayers’ money by providing a better, more convenient option to waiting until an ailment worsens and then seeking more costly care in an emergency room or a hospital.”

Thanks to Seton Healthcare Family’s one-time grant to support the new clinic’s start-up costs, LSCC required no federal or state grant funding to open the new location. The facility will be self-sustaining within the first few months of operations and will not require additional grant funding to support the ongoing provision of services.

“This clinic represents an innovative and forward-thinking approach to addressing the challenges in our current health care system,” said McCaul. “The unique public-private partnership model that made this clinic possible is an example of the ingenuity and collaboration this community needs as we strive to find a fiscally responsible solution to health care reform.”

Seton Healthcare Family and LSCC have collaborated on other community health clinics in the past, including a large clinical hub facility at the Texas A&M Health Science Center in Round Rock and a regional pediatric network with multiple locations providing primary care to the children of Central Texas.

LSCC’s one other clinic location in Travis County is in South Austin at 1221 West Ben White Boulevard. That clinic opened in 2009 and provides primary care and behavioral health services. LSCC is a contracted provider for the Travis County Medical Assistance Program (MAP), and also accepts patients with Medicaid, CHIP, Medicare and other public assistance programs as well as those who are uninsured. Patients without insurance who do not quality for another funding program can receive discounted services on a sliding fee scale according to income.

To schedule an appointment at any LSCC location including the new clinics at Seton Northwest, individuals should call 877-800-5722 or visit www.lscctx.org.
